Auckland Cup and Te Aroha Cup upcoming competition

The final club competition for the 2013 starts next week on the 29th October.

This is the final opportunity for club members to get their name on the 2013 honours board. There are two individual competitions held in parallel:

The Auckland Cup which is an individual scratch competition and Te Aroha Cup for the best individual based on their handicap score.

The competition runs over 6 nights with one score allowed to be discounted or missed.

Remember to confirm your partner before each week and if you aren't sure who you are playing with or need a partner let Hermanna or Anna know.

Happy Bridging Everybody:)

Final night of the pairs

I went into the clubrooms today to download last night results and work out the overall winner of the 4 night pairs and it appeared that not all the results had been captured last night.

Hence the reason for some altered scores (for those that hung around for the results last night).

The winners of both the scratch and handicap sections from last night were: Alison Cradock and Hermanna Hemmes

BUT ... the big winners for the 4 night competition were ... drum roll ...Jillian O'Neill and Greg Saxon.

Because they were the only pair who managed to play every week!

Although to make the ladder appear a bit more interesting - I allowed one score to be dropped and 3 sessions allowable. So on that basis Alison Cradock and Hermanna Hemmes were the unofficial winners (scratch and handicap.

Te Aroha players star at Congress

Congratulations to Henk and Hermanna Hemmes and Jacob Kalma.

Henk and Hermanna (along with John and Rona Driscoll from Taupo) competed at the week long congress and took home the prize for top team henk and hermanna playing at teamshenk and hermanna playing at teamsless than 150 A points.

JAcob competed with the Waikato Youth Team and they came a creditable fourth. As Jacob said, we played pretty good but unfortunately got whupped by the eventual winners Auckland.

Congress is a pretty tough work with at least 60 boards played each day for a week ... The creme of New Zealand (and Australian) bridge compete fiercely. Not for the faint hearted.

First Night of the Teams - update

Without even having to play the third round, the results have changed with a new leading team!

Appears that my manual input of scores created some IMP anomalies which once sorted out have seen the Four Fillins (aka Ian MArtindale, Nelson Hodgetts, Betty McLaren and Foster Kalma) rocketing to the lead.

Mind you, this is before handicaps are applied ... once we have figured out a fair handicap for our visiting team, we may see a tighter contest ensuing.

Looking forward to Tuesday night.

Individual 3 night

A bit of a late finish ... but awesome work to get through 24 boards tonight. Would have been earlier if we hadn't attempted to play last week's boards first.

Congratulations to Tim Rigter who won the Individual 3 night handicap followed by Greg Saxon and Rochelle van Heuven.

Looking forward to the TEAMS next week. This is a great event where we partner with each member of the team and play directly against an opposing team (rather than play against every other pair in the room like a normal weekly session).

Remember the theme is F ... stands for fantastic, fun and flawless (ha ha) bridge playing.

Impressive number of hits to the Te Aroha website last month ...

Whoops - gremlins in the computer

Apologies folks, took the wrong file home so no results until I can get back to the bridge club computer...

However, all i can remember is that it was memorable for Greg & Tim who managed 75% at the expense of others in club (no mentioning names).

The overall result of the two night will be tight ... I think Tim & Greg will have pipped Melba and Anne for the two night match win. However this will remain unofficial until we can confirm with accurate results to hand.

Looking forward to the start of the three night competition next week (starting with a small celebration to welcome new members to the table).
